Top 5 Bars in Marrakech New Town
Fancy a cocktail after a long day of haggling around the souks? Although Marrakech rightfully boasts its rich culture and extensive history, the red city’s expanding night life often flies under the radar. From cabaret to panoramic views, here are my top 5 favourite bars in Marrakech!
1. Barometre
A personal favourite, Barometre is a hidden gem of Marrakech’s night life, concealed underground behind a giant, metal ‘B’ – even the entrance to the bar itself is tastefully adventurous! The dim-lit, industrial-themed bar is not far from the night-buzz of the Hivernage, conveniently located on Rue Moulay Ali, Gueliz. With experimental takes on modern drinks (I recommend the Royal Mojito!) along with its sublime presentation, there is no other bar in the city that offers cocktails as unique as Barometre. The bar’s innovation, atmosphere and friendly staff makes it a one-of-a-kind-experience in Marrakech.
2. The Lotus Club
With a red-carpet entrance, you better come dress to impress as Lotus brings fun and class to the table with its candle-lit bar and sophisticated-yet-lively atmosphere. The Hivernage-based bar offers cabaret performances every night with modern pop playing in-between shows – you might even be greeted by the occasional magician throughout the night whose card tricks will blow your mind. Lotus also has an outside lounging area, where you can go to relax, take a break from the buzz inside, or order a shisha! Lotus is one of the more well-known bars of Marrakech, and for good reason, so booking ahead is strongly advised.
3. The Pearl: Sky Lounge
This terrace-lounge boasts a 360-degree perspective of Marrakech, offering panoramic views of the medina and the Atlas Mountains. Located in the Hivernage, the bar is easy to find and is my ideal spot for warm evenings during the infamously hot Moroccan summer. Despite being located in the night life hub of Marrakech, the lounge is relaxed and chilled, providing both shishas and drinks as you overlook the city. Sky Lounge is the perfect place for a laidback, romantic evening.
4. Vin 68
Offering an extensive selection of both domestic and international wines, Vin 68 is the first wine bar in Morocco. The French-owned business offers wines from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and more! With a rustic, wood-based interior, you will feel transported from the bustling streets of Marrakech to the wine distilleries of Bordeaux. Vin 68 has a lively atmosphere, attracting both foreigners and locals to enjoy their ample wine selection.
5. SO Lounge
Located by the grand Sofitel Hotel in the Hivernage, SO Lounge has grown exponentially in popularity due its successful combination of a chilled-out lounge and a buzzing club. With a clean-cut, contemporary design and a creative, spacious layout, SO Lounge is perfect for a relaxed shisha outside before dancing the night away inside with an array of cocktails, wines and beers. The atmosphere is trendy and young, and the music varies from live bands to modern pop, making it a must if you’re planning on embracing the night life of Marrakech. I highly recommend if you’re with a group and looking for a good night out!
