Wonderful Historic Riad For Sale Marrakech this superb, restored Riad is just 9 minutes on foot from the heart of Marrakech, the Jmaa el Fna square, and 4 minutes from the nearest taxi rank. Located in a quiet side street the Riad has been beautifully restored – not demolished and rebuilt – and retains some interesting architectural features, especially its elaborate and beautiful ceilings.
The Riad is at the end of a short alleyway and the main door opens into an entrance hall with a useful cupboard and stairs with bejmat and zellige tiles leading to the upper floors. The courtyard is a wonderful place to be on a hot day, with shady palms and plants, and of course the deep plunge pool.

The fireplace in the main salon
Typically of the older Riads, it has a larger than expected central courtyard, surrounded on four sides by a balcony at first floor level, supported by pillars. Modernisation work has included a generous plunge pool in the courtyard, en suite bathrooms for all four main bedrooms, and the provision of air conditioning throughout. The height of the building is also apparent with clear views towards the Badi Palace and the Atlas mountains.

There’s a deep plunge pool
The main salon is an impressive room, accessed by double cedar wood doors with traditional Riad proportions; a high and richly decorated plaster ceiling, ochre tadelakt stucco walls with traditional carved plaster decoration and a dramatic, contrasting green stucco fireplace.

The Kitchen
Across the courtyard are two rooms, one currently a study, the other an intimate dining room; these rooms have an interconnecting door and there’s a further internal door linking the dining room to the kitchen.
The kitchen occupies the corner of the Riad, and has natural tadelakt finishing with a beautiful set of arched niches perfect for storing tagines. There are marble worksurfaces and a bright tiled floor.
The remaining side of the courtyard is taken up by the traditional bou, a shady covered seating area.
The stairs are wide and easy rising compared to many riads, and lead to a balcony which encircles the courtyard at first floor level. Here there are three very large bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom, and a smaller staff bedrooms – there is a fifth en suite bedroom at terrace level. Architectural delights abound. One of the bedrooms has an ornate antique cedar ceiling, another has an usual vaulted ceiling. All of the main bedrooms have air conditioning.

The the high terrace
The stairs continues to the terrace level. Naturally given the generous size of the Riad, there’s a large roof terrace with terracotta bejmat tiles, but there’s also a bedroom overlooking the terrace, with its own en suite bathroom.
A further stairs leads to the top level of the terrace, with sensational views to the Badi Palace and High Atlas.
